 HelpSpot, a PHP application, is generally a breeze to install on Linux or Unix. Unfortunately, getting PHP running--and hooked to Microsoft SQL Server--on Windows is tricky at best and left us spending a significant amount of time with our customers to get them up and running.
The team at BitRock was able to put together a custom solution for us which not only allowed our users to install the standard WAMP stack but also optionally offered installing PHP with IIS and SQL Server. Through the development process they provided truly awesome customer service by being extremely responsive and delivering a high quality product. It's been a huge success with our customers and in reducing some of our support load; HelpSpot installations on a Windows server are completed in minutes rather than hours.

HelpSpot by UserScape is a web-based help desk software application. It makes use of the latest web technologies like AJAX, CSS, and Javascript to provide a fluid browser based experience. HelpSpot can be customized and integrated with other applications, such as email, to make managing your customer relationships as fast and easy as possible. |
Challenge: |
Because it is a web-based application, HelpSpot requires PHP and the Zend Optimizer, a database and a web server in order to run. The software supports a wide range of open and closed source web servers, so advanced users have several options in terms of which software they want to run in their environment. Less experienced users, however, may run into problems when trying to download, install, and configure all of the disparate pieces to work together. As an application that prides itself on ease of use, having a fast, user-friendly installation process is key to making the right first impression on new users evaluating the software. |

In order to present the best
installation process possible to users, UserScape decided to ship a Custom Stack from BitRock. The HelpSpot Custom Stack includes all of the software necessary to run HelpSpot, but also offers users the option of automatically hooking up to existing installations of Microsoft's Internet Information Server and MS SQL. The installer offers users the flexibility of choosing exactly how they want the software installed, while still providing the automated process that prevents installation-related errors. UserScape can now be downloaded, installed, configured, and fully-functional in a matter of minutes!
